Øvre Pasvik - Arctic Region's Largest Old-Growth Forest Area
The national park is situated on the Finnish and Russian borders.
The area is an extension of the Siberian taiga and is dominated by pine forest, lakes and wetlands.
Several eastern plant species grow here in abundance, e.g. a gale particular to Finnmark.
Nesting birds include the waxwing, the whooper swan and the great grey owl.
The area has a brown bear population. The watercourses are rich in fish, especially pike and perch.
