Jotunheimen - with Norway's Highest Mountain Peak

Memurudalen Photo: Karin Bjørke

Jotunheimen is characterized by majestic mountain massifs and glaciers. The country's highest mountain peak - Galdhøpiggen (2469 meters above sea level) - is situated within the park. The area has many lakes, of which Gjende is the largest. The flora is rich, and most mountain plants thrive at higher elevations here than anywhere else. Many wild reindeer inhabit the western part of the park, whereas domesticated reindeer can be found in the Lom-Vågå district.
