PAPER-6
: Groundwater and Hydrogeology
Nadheeka P and Angelin Jeneta B

Abstract:

Water – the elixir of life, at a certain depth beneath the ground is getting exhausted. Groundwater is exploited through open wells, tube wells, springs and horizontal galleries. Hydrogeological investigations principally relate to the occurrence, storage and movement of groundwater within a water bearing formation.

This paper highlights the artificial recharge of groundwater, which is a method of modifying hydrological process and thereby providing groundwater in excess of that available by natural processes. It is accomplished by increasing the natural infiltration of precipitation or surface water into underground formation by suitable methods of construction, by ponding or spreading of water or by artificially changing the natural conditions.
