CONCLUSION

The existing practice of waste discharge and disposal near water bodies are creating nuisance in the environment. Nitrate level in ground water and surface water are assessed to check the impacts of waste mismanagement in urban area. At 19 locations near to unauthorized dumpsite and water bodies show a higher levels of nitrate in ground water. Reason could be related to continuously increasing load of direct inflow of sewage, waste water and leachate in water bodies. As there is no other possible reasons for increasing level of nitrate in ground water, so, mismanagement of waste has significant impact on water quality parameters. This highlights the need for immediate interventions for waste treatment to avoid further contamination of ground water.
