PAPER-5: Nitrates in Groundwater Sources in Gulbarga City

Abstract:

High nitrate concentrations have been observed in groundwater sources of Gulbarga city. Ninety eight percent of water samples of the city have nitrate values above acceptable limit of 50 mg/L. It was observed that nitrate increased with hardness, chloride, sulphate and total hardness while alkalinity, fluoride and water table do not exhibit any significant effect on nitrate content. Statistical analysis of the data is presented.
