PAPER-2
: Environmental Geomorphology of Selected Lakes
of T. Narasipur Taluk, Mysore District, Karnataka
Balasubramanian A and Yamuna S.M.

Abstract:

T. Narasipur is situated in the eastern part of Mysore district. The total area of the taluk is 599.1 sq. km. The taluk is surrounded by many lakes. The lakes selected here are Bannuru Heggere (B.Heggere), Kaggalipura Kere, Alagudu Kere and Kuruburu Kere. The geomorphology, drainage, morphometry and water quality is discussed in this paper. The hydrographic, geological, demographic and hydro-chemical parameter controls in the ecology of lakes in and around T. Narasipur have been analysed by adopting an integrated approach. The study has shown that the demographic activities cause severe damage to the fresh water pond ecosystems. Siltation is a combined effect of geological, hydrographic and demographic activities and processes. The study has provided an in-depth database for lake restoration methods.
