The
present paper deals with the accumulation of heavy metals (copper, zinc,
cadmium, iron, lead and nickel) in different organs (gills, intestine and
muscle) of the fish species (Sarothredon
mossambica, Cyprinus carpio and Catla
catla) of Singanallur lake was determined by Atomic Absorption
Spectrophotometer. The study was conducted for a year (January 2000 to December
2000). The trend in accumulation of heavy metals indicated that irrespective of
the species zinc, lead and iron showed higher concentration as compared to other
metals. Higher concentration of metals was recorded in the intestine as compared
to other parts of the body i.e., gills and muscles.
