Abstract

Abstract: The Great Indian Bustard (GIB) has become rare but its over-all distributional range has not changed much. Due to its rarity and destruction of its habitat, the movements if the GIB have presumably become more erratic .However, with the revival of a few grassland since 1976 under the Drought-prone-Area-Program (DPAP) in Maharashtra, sightings of the GIB in some related areas have become more common especially during the monsoon. The present paper on the local movement and flock composite in forms a part of the study of the ecology and behavior of the Great Indian Bustard. This study is based on unmarked birds, therefore movements outside the study area is not followed.daily movements and flock composition of a resident GIB population at Kaera will be dealt with separately.
