Abstract: The effect of deforestation on soils of Western Ghats and West coast of Maharashtra was studied with 6 pedons representing a typical vegetational sequence. Forest, cultivated, pasture and barren lands were studied for their vegetation, geomorphology and soils are described and discussed in details and soils classified up to subgroup levels.
