Abstract: Epithermal deposits are important sources of gold and silver formed at shallow crustal levels (<1km) by hydrothermal systems driven by magmatic events. These commonly form in subaerial volcanic arcs, as well as in intra-arc, back-arc and postcollisional rift settings at temperatures > 300 ? C (Cooke and Simmons 2000; Hedenquist 2000; Simmons, White and John 2005). Associated magmas are generally calcalkaline to alkaline, ranging from basaltic andesite to dacite to rhyolite (Cooke and Simmons 2000; Hedenquist 2000; Simmons, White and John 2005).

Abstract: The NGSA was a collaborative program carried out by Gescience Australia and each of the state and territory geological surveys (de Caritat and Cooper 2011). The intent was to use an ultra-low density, overbank stream sediment geochemical surveying technique to produce the first broad-scale, analytically consistent, baseline dataset for the whole of the continent. The samples were termed ' catchment outlet samples ' as the pre-selected sampling sites, chosen to represent catchments of about 5000 km2 as closely as possible, were sampled at or near their basin outlets.
