Lt. Gen. Anil Kapoor VSM: The role of Directorate General of Information of System is to realize the Net centricity vision of the Indian Army through synergized implementation of all Information System Projects. As part of this charter, the directorate is on a fast track to transform the Indian Army into a fully net centric force by end of 13th Plan. However, challenges do arise because of disruptions and emergence of new technologies. The DGIS is fast adapting to these challenges by carrying out internal resconstructuring of the organization. Agility is an important criterion required to overcome the disruption that are taking place in technological space. We at DGIS are striving to become more agile in our approach while developing and fielding Info systems. The directorate is constantly embracing new technologies to further improve the situational awareness and enhance the decision-making of the Commanders.

Abstract: 2019 is an anniversary year for Mercede3s Benz.25 years ago, the carmaker unveiled the first ever fuel cell vehicle. The lovingly preserved Necar 1 is now on display are the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart. Back then, it took a modified delivery van to house the fuel cell unit and bulky high-pressure hydrogen tank. When the gas was brought into contact with oxygen, water was formed, and enough electrical energy was released to propel the Necar to a maximum speed of 90 km/h.

Abstract: German wind power is booming .In 2017, more new turbines were installed than ever before:1,792 machines with a combined capacity of 5,333 megawatts (MW) -a new record.
Of course, these turbines do not run by themselves. In order to keep electricity output as high as possible, besides plant managers wind farms also rely on service technicians. These are the mechanics who travel to the turbines to do the hands-on work: checking components, greasing bearings or rapairing damage. With a turbine fleet of 28,675 (and counting) all over the country, this is no small task.

Abstract: The global energy transition in flourishing. Last year, worldwide installed PV capacity grew by over 100 gigawatts (GW), while wind capacity saw in increase of 50 GW, according to preliminary estimates by industry associations and market research bodies. The ongoing clean energy boom, fuelled in particular by plummeting PV costs, stands in stark contrast to the state of the global nuclear industry, which remained essentially stagnant as overall capacity grew by just 0.3 GW. Even in the two coal heavyweights China and India, the expansion of clean energy outpaced coal. Meanwhile, China's new PV installations in 2017 also exceeded the country's entire nuclear power capacity.

Abstract: It was an impressive record: when Siemens switched on Block 4 of Irsching Power station in Bavaria in 2011.It boasted an efficiency factor of 60.75 percent. No fossil fuel plant in the world had ever run this efficiently. The milestone was made possibly by cutting-edge combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) technology.
Today, however, the plant is idle most of the time. As of late November, its total operating time for 2017, expressed in peak-load hours, amounted to less than two days-simply because coal-fired power is cheaper to generate at current carbon prices. Among fossil fuel power plants, it is precisely those with the lowest carbon emissions that do not stand a chance in today's market. They are used less now than they were at the turn of the decade.

Abstract: The strain electromobility will place on power grids is often overestimated. 'In the short term, the impact on the electricity sector is minor," claims a study by the Oeko-Institut. The study's authors calculated that even with six million electric vehicles on Germany's roads-the Federal Government's target for 2030-th additional demand would be less than 20 terawatt hours (TWh), or around 4 percent of Germany's total electricity consumption in 2014.
