Abstract: Sand dunes are fragile yet ecologically important ecosystems that protect coastlines, deserts, and river margins from erosion and degradation. Present study documented tree species associated with sand dunes in India through field survey in Odisha, Kerala, West Bengal, and Andhra Pradesh during 2018-2024, identifying 74 different species and highlighting their significance. The findings showed that these trees are essential not only for the stabilization of dunes and provision of ecosystem services but also for providing food, fodder, medicines, timber, fuel, gums, oils, and other culturally significant resources. Examining the enumerated tree species, their ecological interactions, and their contributions to local economies and traditional medicine highlights the significance of enumerated tree species in sand dune areas. Through the integration of ecological and socioeconomic perspectives, present study advocates for the urgent conservation and sustainable management of dune vegetation to maintain ecosystem stability and livelihood security.

Abstract: The current study focuses on analysing the public awareness on conservation of vital plant species by conducting random surveys in and around Greater Hyderabad. Survey analysis indicate a good knowledge among residents at Greater Hyderabad and strong support (75%) for government led conservation. Secondly, identification, collection and conservation of important plant species was carried out by regular field visits. In view of establishing a botanical garden at Loyola Academy Campus at Secunderabad, all the representative collected germplasm was subjected for ex situ conservation respectively. The current findings also emphasize on the need for research and very importantly creation of awareness among public to safeguard the environmental heritage and to prevent the loss of plant diversity due to rapid urbanization, industrial expansion, deforestation, encroachment and habitat loss.

Abstract: This study quantifies the economic value of supporting ecosystem services provided by the Sitakunda Botanical Garden and Ecopark (SBGEP) in Bangladesh. Employing a combination of productivity replacement and direct cost methods, the research assesses the contributions of pollination, nutrient recycling, pest and disease control, forest biodiversity, seed dispersal, and soil nutrition to local livelihoods and ecosystem health. Results indicate that these services collectively contribute BDT 111.70 million (USD 1.18 million) annually to the regional economy. This research underscores the economic significance of protected areas and emphasizes the need for their effective management. The findings provide valuable insights for policymakers and conservation practitioners seeking to integrate ecosystem services into decision making processes.

Abstract: Odisha, a coastal state in eastern India, faces escalating ecological stress from lightning strikes, salinity intrusion, and mangrove degradation, yet these drivers remain largely absent from its climate adaptation strategy. This commentary highlights a critical gap in the Odisha's State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC), particularly the lack of monitoring frameworks for lightning density and coastal salinity progression. Drawing on global systems such as UNFCCC's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), IPCC adaptation metrics, and PRODES-style disturbance mapping, the paper proposes a multi-tiered ecological monitoring framework tailored to Odisha's biophysical and socio-political context. The framework integrates satellite-based lightning detection, community-led salinity mapping, and mangrove carbon flux estimation to inform policy and enhance resilience. By embedding these indicators into future SAPCC revisions and leveraging local institutions for implementation, Odisha can pioneer a data-driven, ecologically grounded model of climate governance. The commentary concludes with a call for interdisciplinary collaboration and policy reform to ensure that overlooked stressors do not become irreversible tipping points.

Abstract: Orchidaceae is the second largest family among the flowering plants (angiosperms) and shows global distribution from terrestrial to epiphytic habitats. A total of 30,000 species under 800 genera are reported from the world (Wang et al,2024). Abstract: Urbanization being a serious environmental concern is disrupting the natural habitat of several floral and faunal species. Avian species are the most vulnerable group among the faunal categories. They get severely affected through the changing climatic and environmental conditions. In the recent times, cities are expanding, and plants are cut down for agricultural, housing, and commercial purposes to accommodate the increasing human population, hampering the habitat of several small birds. Birds are however an essential component of the ecosystem, maintaining the ecological balance through pollination, seed dispersal, pest management etc. Therefore, their declining population is a major area of concern and requires immediate attention and action. Keeping this in mind, an attempt was made to document the native shrubs which provide food and security to the birds in the urban areas. The present study enumerated forty-one shrub species along with the plant parts consumed by birds and plant parts that could be consumed through a tentative field survey and literature review and draws attention to the importance of native planting shrubs for bird restoration in urban areas. Photographs have also been provided to facilitate identification.

Pteris (10) and Asplenium (6) = Adiantum (6) > Selaginella (5) > Christella (4) = Athyrium (4) and Bolbitis (3), showed dominance in the studied area. Based on the ecological habitat, a total of 24 species are terrestrial, 16 species are Terrestrial / Lithophytes, 13 species are Terrestrial / Sciophytes, 7 species are epiphyte / Lithophytes, 4 species belong to epiphytes, 3 Riverines, and 4 Rheophytes. Merophyte, epiphytes, lithophytes / Sciophytes and Wetlands pteridophytes also observed. Among the recorded Pteridophytes, 18 Pteridophytes are considered as common, 56 are occasional, 7 are least concern, four listed as endemics, three categorized as risk, one is classified as rare Bolbitis semicordata (Baker) Ching. Of these, Athyrium cumingianum is a new addition to the Pteridophytes of Tamil Nadu. Based on available literature the study revealed various biological activities viz., antibacterial (19), antioxidant (13) and anti-inflammatory (11) of the observed ferns and fern allies of Anamalai Tiger Reserve.

Abstract: The present study is designated to explore the medicinal importance of twenty important poisonous plants found in the different forest regions of Purulia and Jhargram Districts of West Bengal. As per information collected from tribal people, these plants also have some medicinal properties despite being poisonous. Plants or plant parts are used in the treatment of rheumatism, asthma, epilepsy, tumors, menstrual disorder, skin diseases, intestinal worms, glandular swelling, snake-bites, leprosy, high blood sugar and blood pressure. Results of the study revealed that root portions are mostly used by the tribal people. The blubs and stems are used some times. Leaves and roots of Moringa oleifera Lam., and Aristolochia indica L., were shown to be the mostly used plant parts by the tribal people as indicated by their comparatively high use value (0.92 and 0.88).

Abstract: This study contains information related to the list of plant species found in different stratigraphic layers in the Pembi Range of Kaval Tiger Reserve, Telangana. The enumeration was carried out in 13.7 ha sample area by laying a total of 137 quadrates of 0.1 ha (31.62 × 31.62 m). A total of 199 plant species representing 60 families and 161 genera were recorded in the floristic survey in Pembi Range of Kawal Tiger Reserve. Among all life forms herbs formed the species rich habit with 101 species. Trees represented nearly greater than a quarter of the (61 tree species) total species whereas 10 shrub species, climbers 26 species and 1 epiphyte were enumerated. According to the current Flora of Pembi range, KTR, Telangana checklist, all lifeforms that are allegedly present are rich in terms of biodiversity, academic, economic (horticultural), cultural, artistic and ethnobotanical significance. The floristic inventory yielded considerable plant diversity and different combinations of dominants and co-dominants tree species.
