DATA REQUIREMENT FOR EVALUATION

The following are some of the data collecting techniques useful in quantifying various resources or activities.

Resource/Activity: Wetlands

Valuation Method: Change in Productivity Method or Contingent valuation method

Data Requirement:

  1. Type of wetland products,
  2. Cost of production and price information for these wetland products (for fisheries, wildlife harvesting information etc.,) will be necessary,
  3. Spatial extent of wetlands (temporal changes in spatial extent),
  4. Number of individuals depending on wetland, and
  5. Extent of wetland damage due to adverse weather conditions.

Resource/Activity: Agriculture

Valuation Method: Change in Productivity Method or Contingent valuation method

Data Requirement:

  1. Area and crop productivity for different crops,
  2. Itemised cost of production per hectare by crop (fixed and variable costs),
  3. Output prices by type of crop (on-stand price and market price),
  4. Harvesting costs,
  5. Percentage sold in export market for crop,
  6. Time series data on rainfall and production, and
  7. Incidences of crop damage due to adverse weather conditions.

Resource/Activity: Fisheries

Valuation Method: Change in Productivity Method, Market prices method, or Contingent valuation method.

Data Requirement:

  1. Catch/effort,
  2. Size of the fishing fleet (including the number of fishermen),
  3. Cost of fishing (wages and fuel costs),
  4. Prices of fish by species (ex-vessel),
  5. Species composition of catch,
  6. Type of fishing gear,
  7. Boat capacity and type,
  8. Area of wetlands,
  9. Water quality, and
  10. Any other information relevant.
