Preliminary meeting of the Review Mission, MoSPI, MoEF&CC with the IISc Team

  • Overview of existing policies and projects in the environmental domain in Karnataka State (GoI)
  • Discussion on policy priorities; how the Natural Capital Accounts and the project may inform / support policies in the environmental domain(all)

Preliminary meeting of the Review Mission, MoSPI, MoEF&CC with the IISc Team

  • Invitees 10-15 representatives from environmental domain e.g. State Ministries/ Departments; MoSPI; ENVIS Center; Academia etc
  • Presentation of the project and the ecosystem accounting approach by UNSD
  • Identify key policy issues in Karnataka State (e.g. ecosystem / land degradation; overexploitation; water scarcity; habitat loss etc.)
  • Identify 3 to 5 most important ecosystem services to be assessed (see Table 1 belowfor a long list of possible services to be selected from, as these services are also prioritized in the SEEA EEA revision process);
  • Discuss a number of policy scenarios that are important to assess in Karnataka, based on to be compiled ecosystem accounts; specify which policy interventions to study;
  • The output of this consultation should provide a good description of the demand for ecosystem accounts in Karnataka and would be important to set priorities in its compilation.
