Lake Trophic Condition and Diversity of Aquatic Macrophytes

Narayana J. Department of Environmental Science

Address

Lakes receive nutrients from allocthonous and autochthonous forms, which influences the succession of aquatic macrophytes. The present study comprises nutrient condition in sediment and water and its influence on the growth and diversity of various aquatic plants. During the study period water and sediment samples were collected and analysed for various parameters such as calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, nitrates and phosphates. Similarly aquatic macrophytes were collected and identified to know the distribution and diversity. Finally, the studies concluded that increasing the nitrate and phosphate concentration both in sediment and water influenced the growth and abundance of macrophytic vegetation.
