Fuelwood and Energy Sectoral ReviewVietnam Tropical Forestry Action ProgrammeField Document No.33, May 1992
This report describes the energy situation in Vietnam with emphasis on biomass and wood energy. The current energy situation is covered in detail with a provisional energy balance. This shows how the country's energy consumption is met by various energy resources. The main part of this report is devoted to the quantification of the national fuelwood demand and supply situation. The supply side is presented in terms of fuelwood production from forests and residue production from various sources. The demand side is divided between industrial and household demand. The national policies, objectives and strategies for fuelwood supply are presented. It appears that there is a large gap in the fuelwood demand and supply. Major increases in tree planting targets, necessary to bridge this gap, will require major investments. Land allocation programmes may provide another key to increase the production of fuelwood. Related data are inadequate, thus, much more work on data gathering will have to be done.
