2.

Significance of management issues and response options

As stated above

3.

Management issues pertaining to

a)

Habitat and / or

Sporadic instanced of dynamiting is reported. Jungle Lodges and Resorts are protecting the area.

b)

Species / Variety

Mahseer- Tor khudree is a famous sport-fish found in this stretch of river in a addition to L. c albasu, L.fimbriatus. The species are required to be protected.

4

Customary / Administrative

M/s. Jungle Lodges & Resorts are managing the area and protecting the species.

5.

Since how long the arrangements have been in practice

Since 10 years

6.

Changes, if any, in management pattern over last 10-15 years

Initially the Department of Fisheries was issuing licences and later leased the area to M/s. Wild life Association of South India. WASI stocked some Mahseer seed in the stretch to replenish the stocks. Now the river stretch is under the administrative control of Forest Department. M/s. Jungle Lodges and Resorts have taken lease of the river stretch and managing and organising sport-fishing which is attracting both Indian and Foreign tourists.

7.

Desired changes / Desired future

M/s. Jungle Lodges & Resorts may organise replenishment of the threatened species.

8.

Desired management system

A Committee comprising officers of the Department of Forest, Fisheries Society for Advancement of Aquaculture and Jungle Lodges and Resorts be constituted to monitor the development and management of the river stretch.

b)

Perspectives of Investigators

A detailed study may be undertaken to assess the status of fish fauna and measures to improve the situation and also to find out if there is any pollutional threat to the river water.

c)

Desired and feasible pattern of management that should be promoted in the opinion of the investigators

•  Immediate action may be taken to stock Mahseer and other threathened species into this river stretch.

•  Strict measures should be taken to prevent poaching dynamiting, poisoning etc. .

•  Constitute a Committee as suggested to foresee developmental and conservation measures.

d)

Suggested strategy for promoting this desired patterns of management and the communication needs for the purpose
