Abstract

Abstract: A preliminary study was under taken to explore the role of coffee plantation as a refuge for the avifauna for fragmented forest patches in the middle plains of Western Ghats. Species composition, species richness and feeding guild abundance were compared between the habitat types using non-parametric tests. Species composition avifauna was found significantly different between forest and plantation plots. Several native forest-loving species were not observed foraging in plantations. The insectivorous guild was found to be more often shifted in forest habitat, while the omnivorous guild was found to be more abundant in the plantation habitat.
