If commercial exploitation of natural resource should avoid extinction, exhaustion and the irreversible destruction of habitat and sustainable yield from natures to be the guiding principle main steps on the following lines can be taken to minimize the adverse impacts on the ecosystem of Idukki that the hydel project has caused 1 Minimizing the secondary developments Secondary developments in the after moth of the commissioning of the Idukki project like the choosing Painaviu as the headquarters of Idukki district, the establishment of many human settlements in centers like Kulamavu, vazhathope and Painavu deterioration of and the resultant easy access to the man to what ever is left of the habitats have adversely affected the fauna is no way lesser than the initial direct adverse impacts of the project. 2 Enforcement of available provision law (i) Ban on cardamom cultivation and monoculture plantations (ii) stoppage of unauthorized felling of trees (iii) Enforcement of anti poaching provisions of law 3 Development of a corridor to connect Idukki to Thekkady 4 Reintroduction of species which existed during the pre -project period. 5 Reintroduction of males/females of a given species 6 Prevention of further deterioration of ecosystem 7 Reintroduction of pisciculture vis -a-vis the present limnological status of Idukki reservoir 8 Disturbance to the macro-climate and steps needed to minimize the adverse impacts 9 Impact of the reservoir on the flora and fauna along the banks of the reservoir and measure to partially remedial situation 10 Reserving parts of Idukki forests as a protected areas 11 Adoption of new techniques 12 Need for educating forest officials and local population on Eco- development of Idukki 13 Fund for Eco-development of Idukki 14 Constitution of an Eco-development board
