Hello,

I am sending herewith the announcement for the Information Today & Tomorrow meet to be held at Pune, January 7th to 10th. With the emerging interest in Internet/Intranet, we plan to hold a special full day session on this topic. We are also trying to get a dedicated high speed link for Internet connection thru VSNLfor the duration of the meet. This would give an opportunity to see live demos.

We also plan to hold an exhibition along with the meet. If you know of any one who would be interested in having a exhibit or sponsoring the meet please let me know.

Looking forward to an enthusiatic response

We are in the Information Age:

Information industry has come of age in India. With the liberalization of the economy and the consequent globalization, the demand for information has been increasing rapidly. Information is now recognized to be a key component of strategic planning and decision making. There is also a welcome change in the attitude of the information user community. Earlier, information was taken for granted and there was a reluctance to pay for it. Now, the same users often want information in the shortest possible time, and are more than willing to pay for it. Many industrial organizations are setting up information centres with access to on-line as well as CD-ROM databases. With the fall of hardware prices and the access to better telecom services, information is becoming available on desktop in a big way. Internet and world wide web access are growing at a rapid pace. This will soon be the preferred and probably the only mode of accessing databases, electronic journals and other multimedia databases. Many organizations are setting up intranets for providing access to internal databases. We should be seeing major database vendors providing web access to their databases in the near future.

Information Today & Tomorrow is a major meet for knowledge workers, on-line professionals, people in business and media, and people who use electronic information resources for research and decision making. Sponsored and promoted by the National Information System for Science and Technology (NISSAT), Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi, this is the only major conference in India that focuses on information contents and the associated technology for information delivery. It provides an unique opportunity to learn about the recent developments from experts in the field, interact with other information professionals, watch product demos, discover new services and products and gather details about products by talking to the information industry representatives. The meet also provides a virtual market place where the information industry, promoters and the users can interact.
