Subject: Call for Papers, 7th SSAFR

With a high rate of abstract submittals to date, this is shaping up to be an outstanding conference for people interested in modeling and forests. Due to space constraints, we need to hear from BOTH presenters and probable attendees NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 15th in order to guarantee accommodations.

Background
----------

This will be the seventh in a series of systems analysis symposia - Athens, Georgia in 1975; Athens, Georgia in 1985; Monterey-Asilomar in 1988; Charleston in 1991; Valdivia, Chile in 1993; Monterey-Asilomar in 1994, and Traverse City, 1997. These symposia have long provided a venue for presentation of state-of-the-art applications of systems analysis in forest resources, and fertile opportunities for the exchange of ideas. Abstracts from the Proceedings of the 1994 Symposium can be viewed at http://www.for.msu.edu/e4/papers/e4_1994.htm

Venue
-----

The conference will be held near Traverse City, Michigan at Shanty Creek, a golf and ski resort perched on a hill-top that overlooks much of northern Michigan. This scenic region features diverse forests, some of the steepest topography in the Lower Peninsula, and the sparkling waters of Lake Michigan's Grand Traverse Bay. Shanty Creek is a short 45-minute drive from Cherry Capital Airport in Traverse City which is served by several dozen flights each day on five airlines. Shanty Creek will provide complimentary, round-trip shuttle service from the airport for participants in this Symposium.

The Traverse City area boasts outstanding aquatic and land based recreation opportunities and is known for wineries and superb angling. Shanty Creek is set among rolling hills and extensive stands of northern hardwood forest, and has a wide range of accommodations available from lake view hotel rooms at the conference center to condominiums overlooking the fairways of The Legend, Shanty Creek's signature, Arnold Palmer golf course.
