Subject: ECOLOG-L Digest - 29 May 2003 to 30 May 2003 (#2003-139) There are 3 messages totalling 147 lines in this issue. Topics of the day: 1. Web Forum on NEON NRC Study (2) 2. June GPS Certified User Workshops ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 30 May 2003 09:18:56 -0400 From: Nadine Lymn <NADINE@ESA.ORG> Subject: Web Forum on NEON NRC Study Subject: Web Forum on NEON NRC Study Because of its potential relevance to the ecological community, we wanted to alert you to an opportunity to provide input to a National Research Council (NRC) study on the proposed National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) by participating in a web forum discussion from June 2 to June 16, 2003. This is an opportunity to provide your perspectives and insights to the committee. Please navigate to www.nationalacademies.org/neon to join the discussion and for more information on NEON. Contact Bridget Avila ( bavila@nas.edu ) if you have any difficulties with the forum. The study committee will evaluate which important issues in ecology need to be addressed on an expanded range of scales and will assess whether NEON's national network of field and laboratory research infrastructure is an appropriate and necessary means to address large-scale questions. WEBCAST In addition to the web forum, the committee will meet on Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at the National Academy of Sciences Building (2101 Constitution Ave., Washington DC), which will be open to public between 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. EDT. This will be an opportunity to learn about NSF's plans for NEON and about the views of relevant professional societies and other government agencies. Please contact Bridget Avila (202) 334-2186 or bavila@nas.edu if you plan to attend this meeting. Alternatively, you may listen to the meeting via a live audio webcast and submit questions using an e-mail form at http://national-academies.org. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 May 2003 13:10:06 -0400 From: "Richard O'Grady, Exec. This takes you to an additional NRC info page for the NEON study that is not, at the moment, well-linked to the www.nationalacademies.org/neon page that NRC is advertising--though it's at the latter URL where one signs up to submit comments to the web forum or speak at the committee meeting on June 10th. Note also that the NSF NEON website at www.nsf.gov/bio/neon , which NRC links to, is out-of-date. Current information about NEON can be found at the IBRCS website: http://ibrcs.aibs.org Richard O'Grady AIBS At 09:18 AM 5/30/2003 -0400, you wrote: >Subject: Web Forum on NEON NRC Study > >Because of its potential relevance to the ecological community, we >wanted to alert you to an opportunity to provide input to a National >Research Council (NRC) study on the proposed National Ecological >Observatory Network (NEON) by participating in a web forum discussion >from June 2 to June 16, 2003. > >This is an opportunity to provide your perspectives and insights to the >committee.
