Risk-based approaches and modeling of scenarios using computer programs are also becoming increasingly common in several fields of environmental science and strategic planning. This volume addresses the use of predictive models in conservation planning in a wider perspective than PVAs of endangered species, and is intended for conservation biologists, managers, students and agency personnel. Combining reviews and case studies, it complements contemporary volumes by giving a broader overview of applications ranging from simple occupancy models to individual-based demographic models. Visit the website http://www.oikos.ekol.lu.se/EB48contents.html where you can see the book, its preface, contents and abstracts of the included papers. You can also order it there. -------------------------------------------- Per Sjogren-Gulve Assoc. prof. in Conservation Biology Uppsala University Dept of Conservation Biology & Genetics Norbyv. 18D SE-752 36 Uppsala Sweden Email: per.sjogren-gulve@environ.se ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Mar 2001 07:41:33 -0800 From: Omar Lopez <prioria@YAHOO.COM> Subject: PLANT ECOLOGY ASSISTANT please post and forward to potential applicants > PLANT ECOLOGY/ECOPHYSIOLOGY ASSISTANT WANTED on a > project studying drought > stress as a factor determining the distribution and > abundance of tropical > rainforest tree species. This conference will focus on a central feature of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem's landscape, Yellowstone Lake, where submerged hot springs and spires emerge atop the Yellowstone caldera and rare plants and evidence of prehistoric peoples erode at the mercy of wind, waves, and modern footsteps. The conference is interdisciplinary in nature, including hydrology, geology, wildlife management, botany, archeology, recreational use, economics, and other disciplines. Individuals interested in presenting a paper at the conference should submit an abstract by March 30, 2001. For more information on the conference, or to submit an abstract, visit www.nps.gov/yell/technical/conference.htm, email Michelle_Le_Beau@nps.gov, or call 307-344-2239.
