The position works in the State Museum and = conducts research on the mammals and/or birds of New York State. The = incumbent will: 1. Conduct independent, collection-based and field research in New York = State and elsewhere dealing with the taxonomy, natural history, ecology or = behavior of mammals and/or birds as part of major research programs; Will = be responsible for securing grant or contract funding to support research = and collections work; Will be responsible for administering extra-mural = funding to its completion. (40%) 2. Develop, maintain and curate subsections of the large and varied State = Museum vertebrate collection. Assure proper documentation, identification, = authentication and storage of the collections. Participate in policy = making for collections, with special emphasis on archival material and = conservation. (15%) 3. Responsible for publishing information collected during research = projects at NYSM in peer-reviewed publications; Responsible for public = lectures at the Museum and at professional scientific assemblages. = Popular publications will be strongly encouraged. (10%) 4. Conduct routine correspondence related to the areas of study.
