Subject: PROFESSOR IN AQUATIC/ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE Applications are invited for the position of Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Science at UTS. The position has been established as part of a strategic partnership with a leading Technology Consultant, Sinclair Knight Merz Pty Ltd which is co-sponsoring the Chair. The Department of Environmental Sciences, which currently has 18 academic staff, has a strong commitment to teaching and an expanding profile in research and consultancy. The appointment of a Professor in aquatic/environmental science is sought to further strengthen the teaching and, in particular, the research activities of the Department. It is expected that for the first two or three years of appointment that the Professor would be heavily involved in enhancing the research activity within the Department. The Professor should also be willing to serve at some time as Head of Department or Dean of the Faculty in order to play a broad role in University government. Applicants must have an established and distinguished record in a clearly identifiable area of Aquatic/Environmental Science, preferably closely aligned to one or more of Ecotoxicology, Aquatic Biology or Environmental Bioscience. Applicants should also have an extensive current publication record, have considerable experience in the supervision of an active research group and demonstrable success in obtaining significant external research grants. It would be expected that the successful applicant would have had major success through funding bodies such as the Australian Research Council but the ability to establish and operate collaborative research and development ventures with industry would be viewed most favourably given the strong links that UTS has established with industry. Prior experience of liaison with industry would be most desirable. The Department currently has research and consultancy activity in several areas of environmental sciences including aquatic and terrestial biology, a joint Centre for Ecotoxicology with the EPA, coastal resource management, GIS and remote sensing, environmental horticulture and earth sciences. The Faculty would welcome applications from persons who can demonstrate an ability to develop existing research strengths and/or establish significant new and complementary research areas which may draw generally on the facilities of the Faculty and Department and the expertise of its present members. The Department has good laboratory facilities and field equipment including boats and off-road vehicles and has full access to an extensive array of state-of-the-art analytical equipment within the Faculty. Applicants must have a commitment to excellence in both teaching and research. For detailed information on the Faculty please contact the Dean (Professor Tony Moon.
