Subject: Finland - Information directory of Science and technology Thank you for the most interesting discussion on IRN. As the founder of Information Directory of Science and Technology in Finland my experience in utilizing low cost information technology (e-mail, WebSites, PDF-files, databases) in dissemination of research results as well as targeted e-mail delivery is applicable to developing countries. We maintain an extensive database on almost 17,000 persons currently active within all fields of science and technology in our country and have their permission to use their e-mail addresses in information services. Our database (Suomen tiede- ja tekniikkahakemisto, STTH) describes two aspects of the persons academic achievements (among other things): 1) a person=B4s knowledge on various subjects 2) and some of his/her latest publications. We use an additional database of keywords to make the search more effective, as we choose the receipients for our customers' e-mail messages. Any publication can be transformed - with the author's permission - to an electronic document and placed in the Internet for anyone or delivered to those willing to read it. Most of the publications can be received as textfiles directly from the author. As mentioned in earlier contributions, the only requirement for this is an e-mail address and an Internet browser. It may be not necessary to do or organize everything in your own country. You can buy information services from any country within a reasonable price and get all the benefits you expect to have.
