Announcement and Call for Papers for the Regional Workshop on
"Income Generation Through Photovoltaics?!"

18-19 November 1998
Centre for Scientific Research, Auroville

Organised by
E-net

Introduction
Let's face it. Oil prices have not zoomed to US $ 1,000 a barrel. Nor
have solar photovoltaics come down to US $ 1 per watt. Yet, renewable
energy devices are here today and making steady inroads on our daily
lives. Solar photovoltaics, for example, are now on watches,
calculators, emergency lights and so on.
The big question, however, is the photovoltaics market - government or
subsidy driven, or is it something which is already buoyant and getting
better?
E-net, an energy network focusing on decentralised power production -
especially in rural areas, would like to believe in the latter.
Therefore, we like to invite all like-minded people - manufacturers,
users, policy-makers, environmentalists, development workers - to share
their experiences on how solar photovoltaics can be used for income
generation, with us in Auroville, India.
