Subject: Call for Papers for Volume 3 of 'Local Environment' LOCAL ENVIRONMENT SUBSCRIPTION ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS FOR VOLUMES 3 (1998) Local Environment is a new international journal which was launched in February 1996. The journal focuses upon the growing area of local environmental and sustainbility policy, politics and action, defined in the broadest possible manner. It addresses these issues in terms which encompass both 'academic' and 'practice' issues and debates. The composition of the editorial board(s) of the journal reflect our intention that Local Environment will serve environmental practitioners in central and local governments, the voluntary and private sectors, as well as teachers, researchers and students in higher education. Contents: We would welcome papers to be published in 1997-8 relating to local environmental and sustainability policy, practice and politics, with a focus upon 'the local' in a regional, national and international context. We wish to invite three kinds of contribution: * Articles relating to some aspects of the journal's central concerns. These should be about 6,000 words and be written in a style which reflects the journal's readership in both academic institutions and practice. All submitted articles will be read by independent referees before being accepted for publication. * Viewpoints and Comment will provide an opportunity to express opinions on current or future policies, politics or other issues. These will generally be around 2,000 - 3,000 words and will not be subject to refereeing. * Reviews of recent books and publications. We are compiling a list of reviewers and would welcome any prospective reviewers. Reviews will normally be around 600 words. Books, publications, reviews or the names of prospective reviewers should be sent to: Sue Buckingham-Hatfield, Reviews Editor, Brunel University College, Borough Road, Isleworth TW7 1DU UK In all cases, contributions should be submitted as hard copy. Notes for Contributors for article authors may be obtained from the editors and will be published in each issue of the Journal. North American authors should note that there is a different refereeing system.
