Subject: Local Environment: a new journal.
ANNOUNCING A NEW JOURNAl: LOCAL ENVIRONMENT
As the quest for both local and global sustainability further permeates
societies around the world, academics, policy makers and practitioners are
moving from single 'issues' towards integrated sustainable solutions. This
'new environmental agenda', which links social, economic and environmental
concerns will require new ways of looking at problems and new ways of
working. Local Environment will provide the forum for examining,
evaluating, assessing and developing this new policy agenda.
Local Environment is a new international journal launched in February 1996.
The journal focuses upon the growing area of local environmental and
sustainbility policy, politics and action, defined in the broadest possible
manner. It addresses these policy arenas in terms which encompass both
'academic' and 'practice' issues and debates. The composition of the
editorial boards of the journal reflects the Editors' intention that Local
Environment will serve environmental and sustainability policy makers and
practitioners in central and local governments and the NGO and private
sectors, as well as teachers, researchers and students in higher education.

CALL FOR PAPERS
The editors would welcome papers relating to local environmental and
sustainability policy, practice and politics, with a focus upon 'the local'
as the driving force behind policy in a regional, national and
international context. We wish to invite three kinds of contribution:
* Articles relating to some aspects of the journal's central concerns.
These should be around 6,000 words and be written in a style which reflects
the journal's readership in both academic institutions and practice. All
submitted articles will be read by independent referees before being
accepted for publication.
* Viewpoints and Comment will provide an opportunity to express opinions on
current or future policies, politics or practice. These will generally be
around 2,000 - 3,000 words and will not be subject to refereeing.
* Reviews of recent books and publications. Reviews will normally be around
1000 words. The editors are compiling a list of reviewers and would welcome
any prospective reviewers.
