MD-FORUM on listserv@msias.ias.unu.edu - Forum on Multilateral Diplomacy

In the 50 years since the foundation of the United Nations, multilateral
diplomacy has become an increasingly complex and dynamic process. Faced
with this complexity, developing countries have had to participate in
international fora on an array of different issues which are often highly
technical or scientifically based. Frequently lacking the means and
resources, these countries have become handicapped to the extent that their
democratic participation in multilateral fora may have become infringed. In
an effort to address this issue, the "Multilateral Diplomacy Project" of
the Institute of Advanced Studies, United Nations University will aim at
generating discussion and developing concepts and ideas which will
contribute to making multilateral negotiations more effective as
problem-solving instruments for transnational issues, such as those
concerning the environment. In particular, the project will focus on
capacity building of developing countries so that they can more fully
enhance their participation in multilateral diplomacy.

UNU/IAS invites you to join the mailing list and we welcome you to raise
transnational issues that concern multilateral diplomacy for discussion.
