Budget-In-Brief The programs of the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) lead the nation's effort to reduce energy costs, consumption, and emissions, enhance industrial competitiveness and productivity, increase the fuel economy of vehicles, hasten the application of alternative fuels and advanced transportation technologies, save energy in Federal buildings and operations, and improve the performance and cost-effectiveness of a number of maturing renewable energy technologies. This document summarizes EERE's activities in energy efficiency and renewable energy in fiscal year 1999. 2. U.S. Department of Energy Energy Fitness Program The Energy Fitness Program is an Energy Star Partnership effort to increase energy service company (ESCO) delivery of energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies to state and local governments, private companies, and other organizations. On the home page of this Web site, read about the approach and benefits of the Program. Delve further into the site to identify and reach Program contacts and partners, download related publications, obtain information about the Energy Fitness Program's accreditation requirements for ESCO participation, learn about the ongoing efforts to enable state and local governments to use ESCO services, and receive details about the upcoming International Roundtable on Energy Efficiency Financing. 3. EnerTech Environmental, Inc. Developing and commercializing energy generation technologies using low grade wastes is an extension of EnerTech Environmental's core function of solid waste disposal. Descriptions of the company's SlurryCarb process, demonstration plant and test facilities, and the properties of and emissions from their resulting E-Fuel product are provided on this Web site.
