Subject: Experimental Acoustical Fish Barrier Field Research. To: FISH-ECOLOGY@SEGATE.SUNET.SE Status: RO SUBJECT: Experimental Acoustical Fish Barrier Field Research The following two reports and a summary paper are now available from the sources shown after the citations. These reports cover ongoing work on the Georgianna Slough Experimental Acoustical Fish Barrier placed in the Sacramento River of California (USA). Behavioral barrier testing at Georgianna Slough is designed and conducted as a cooperative research and development project among a variety of State and Federal resource agencies, and water districts. Primary coordination for the demonstration project was through the Interagency Ecological Program's (IEP) New Fish Facilities Development Project Work Team, which includes participation by the Ca. St. Dept. of Fish & Game (DFG), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR), and Ca. St. Dept. of Water Resources (DWR). The San Luis & Delta-Mendota Water Authority administered Phase I and II of the project under contract to DWR and USBR, with field support from Hanson Environmental. Phase III and IV were the direct responsibility of DWR, with contracted support from Hanson Environmental, the DFG, and other IEP agencies. REPORTS: Hanson Environmental, Inc. 1993. Interagency Ecological Program for the San Francisco Bay/Delta Estuary, Technical Report #44. May 1996. 86 pp. + two separate Technical Appendices: Vol. #1, 205 pp.; Vol. #2, 333 pp. [the appendices are available only by special request to active researchers and will require a substantial copying and mailing charge] The main report is available FREE OF CHARGE from: State of California, Department of Water Resources, Attention: Lisa Batiste, P. SUMMARY PAPER: The following summary paper is derived from Hanson Environmental, Inc. 1993 and 1996, and preliminary data from Hanson, et. al. 1997, In preparation. Since the latter report has yet to receive formal interagency review mandated by IEP procedures, interpretations of the results of Phase III and IV studies can only be considered preliminary and subject to change upon completion of the required review process. I would appreciate hearing from you. If you have a professional interest in the development of behavioral barriers for fish guidance, and are willing to voluntarily participate in our interagency peer review process for future study plans and reports, please let me know this also, and I will submit your name to the IEP Project Leader, Mr. Darryl Hayes.
