-----------------------------------------------------------------
SSIN aims to provide information for all those working in the broad field of
solar and renewable energy. The SSIN newsletter is published once every two
months, and archived at the SSIN World Wide Web Site.
Although aimed at students studying in the UK, anyone is welcome to subscribe
to the newsletter, and instructions together with our subscription address
are included below.
The service is provided free of charge by the UK Solar Energy Society
(UK-ISES) a non profit-making organisation dedicated to promoting the
application of solar energy.
We actively encourage any and all contributions, criticisms, suggestions and
general feedback. We also encourage subscribers to organise their own solar-
related projects and groups as part of the overall SSIN initiative.
You can write to SSIN, or subscribe to the SSIN newsletter at the following
address:

:EDITORIAL
~~~~~~~~~~
For some of you, this is the first mailing that you have ever received from
SSIN. For others, it is the first mailing in over 6 months. For this I must
apologise. Renewable energy is all about delivering sustainable energy
solutions, but sustainability should be applied in all areas of life. The
newsletter had become unsustainable and unfortunately, as a free service,
more than one co-ordinator could handle.
SSIN is back on-line, but considerably smaller than before. Sponsorship has
been obtained to allow more resources to be used in its compilation. The
SSIN World Wide Web site has been maintained (search :SITE) and this
newsletter will be archived there along with all previous newsletters.
However, the newsletter will focus much more on news and resources, less
features and articles.
It also makes a request for information. If you have any news, research
developments, requests or hot Web sites to check, e-mail them to us at the
usual address.
This newsletter is a small restart, and hopefully will re-establish itself
once again as a regular reliable source of information. Thanks for sticking
with it!
Best wishes,
Mark Thornton: mark@tfc-bham.demon.co.uk
The Society
~~~~~~~~~~~
The SOLAR ENERGY Society is a non-profit organisation. It is a forum for all
those interested in the advancement of the utilisation of the sun's energy.
Members of the Society are drawn from industry, government, academic
institutions, architectural and engineering practices, as well as the general
public: academic qualifications are not a pre-requisite for
membership.
The SOLAR ENERGY Society has close links with other renewable energy
organisations and government bodies, and is thus able to promote solar energy
in all its aspects. The SOLAR ENERGY Society has organised over 60 national
and international conferences on selected specialist topics. It also
publishes technical books on solar energy and provides information through
its newsletter and other documentation to its members and the general
public.
The Society represents the national section of the International Solar Energy
Society (ISES) which is also an international forum for all those interested
in the utilisation of renewable solar sources. The Society, founded in 1954,
now has over 30 national sections, with members from over 105
countries.
