The Center for Communications, Health and the Environment (CECHE) is a
private, nonprofit, 501(c)(3) American institution based in Washington,
DC, specializing in health promotion and disease prevention, with a
special focus on lifestyle related issues such as tobacco control and
with special emphasis on the use of mass media nd information
technology.

Founded in 1990, CECHE’s mission has been to assist the newly
established democracies of Central Europe and the former Soviet Union by
initiating, coordinating and supporting programs to improve health and
alleviate the adverse health effects of environmental pollution in this
region. CECHE brings together scientists, journalists, educators, and
policy makers from the United States, Central Europe, the Newly
Independent States (NIS) and Asia to address the health and environmental
challenges facing societies in transition, especially through the use of
mass media. Our programs focus on four areas: environmental and public
health policy, community intervention, private voluntary sector
development and professional training and public education.

The next issue of the Monitor is slated to address the challenge
of“ Alternative Medicine”. I invite your comments on the
current issue and seek suggestions for future issues. Please also
indicate if you are interested in contributing an article to the
Monitor. If so, please provide your coordinates.

Thanks you.
