ECOSUMMIT '96 Assistance Needed

*********************************************************************

As most of you know, ECOSUMMIT '96 will be held in Copenhagen this August and is being sponsored by: the International Society of Ecosystem Health; the International Society of Ecological Economics; the International Society of Ecological Modelling; the International Ecological Engineering Society; the International Lake Environmental Committee, Elsevier Science, et al.

For further, general information, you may contact via email: gf.spear@elsevier.co.uk or enter our web server home page at:http://info.dfh.dk/ECOSUM96

MY SPECIFIC INTEREST in this posting is to generate inquiries related to assiting me in the development of a special session which I have agreed to organize, on the broader topics of ecological indicators and indices. More specifically, if there is enough interest and I can assemble enough expertise, I would like to focus thematically on the selection of indicators when considering the science-policy interface, and related values and assessment objectives and endpoints.

I am scheduled to give a keynote in this area, as well as organize either this special session or a panel discussion (or both).

However, because of the restrictions on U.S. travel for most federal scientists due to budget uncertainties, etc., I must draw on individuals who already plan to attend the SUMMIT or who can attend but must find their own funding -- the SUMMIT does not have any additional support funding beyond what has already been commited. I therefore am asking for volunteers who would like to work with me for this session.

Many of you may have worked with me in the past during the 1st International Symposium on Ecological Indicators held in Ft. Lauderdale in 1990, or be familiar with Ecological Indicators, Vols. 1&2. If you unsure as to whether you could be of benefit, please contact me anyway. I am looking for general ecologists, resource-specific specialists, decision scientists, assessment scientists, resource economists, et al.

Thank you for your interest in this matter.

Sincerely,

D. Eric Hyatt
Member, Steering Committee
