Bangalore: Business lobby has adversely affected the ecosystem of Bangalore with lack of trained manpower, short-time planning, and unprecedented growth adding to the problems, experts said.
At a presentation on "Urban dynamics', TV Ramachandra said studies indicated a 58% cut in green cover in Greater Bangalore attributing to intense urbanisation processes, evident from a 466% increase in built-up area from 1973 to 2007.
"Bangalore gets water from Cauvery basin, which is 100 km from the city. To pump water, 100MW of energy is used everyday. If the water bodies are rejuvenated and maintained, the city would be self-sufficient," he said.
Robin King, researcher with the Centre for Study of Science Technology and Policy, said environmental problems needed long-term solutions. |
