Re-planting bananas on
fields that are in the corridor alignment. This community is unaware
of the fact that they might be displaced. The plants will yield
after a year or more. Perhaps the field will not exist then.(October
2001) |
This is a picture
of a house "that is not being touched", but the land right outside
the house is notified for acquisition. And the company claims they
haven't touched dwellings. The expressway corridor is 220 feet
wide.(October 2001) |
Another major claim of
the company is that wetland cultivation is not touched. That this
claim is specious is evident from the quality of the land in this
picture, it is paddy fields.(October 2001) |
Behind the hillock is
the Badamanavarthi Kaval forest. Over 160 acres of this forest will
be lost for the corridor.(October 2001) |
Agara Tank is one of the
several tanks the silt of which is allowed for construction use.
This is likely to cause serious damage to the watershed and the
waterbody..the backbone of the rainfed agriculture in the
region.(October 2001) |
A view of areas outside
of Bangalore which will be acquired for the corridor. This is the
kind of land that will be acquired. Closer to Mysore the land is
much more fertile and irrigated. (October 2001)
