Power utility to take up three projects |

HYDERABAD : Three new power projects would be taken up during the tenth five-year
plan by the Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGenco). The
projects will cost about Rs 4,850 crore and would help generate 1,320 mw of
power. Addressing a press conference on Monday, Genco chairman and managing
director (CMD) J Parthasarathy said works related to the three projects — Rayalaseema
Thermal Power Project (RTPP), Vijayawada Thermal Power Station (VTPS) and the
Jurala Hydro Electric Scheme — would be commissioned in the next 36 months.
The CMD said the power finance corporation had assured them of Rs 1,200 crore
for immediate execution of the projects. Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh would
jointly construct the 240 mw Rs 234-crore Jurala Hydro Electric Scheme, and
the first unit would be commissioned in the next 30 months, he said. The Genco
chief said stage-II supply & erection works of the Rs 1,600-crore RTPP, comprising
2 units of 210 mw each, have been awarded to Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited.
The Rs 2706-crore VTPS stage IV unit, based on super critical technology, has
been programmed for synchronisation by March 2007, the Genco chief said.
