Welcome
Welcome to the new home pages of WIMOVAC (Windows
Intuitive Model of Vegetation response to Atmospheric and Climate Change) at the
University of Essex. We hope that you will come in and look around our web site and
perhaps download some of the free software available here.
WIMOVAC Profile
WIMOVAC is a general model applicable to a wide range of vegetation and soil types and
importantly an experimental tool that managers, students and experimentalists can
use easily. Its heart is a modular mathematical model of the carbon balance of vegetation
and allows prediction of responses to climate change. Even non-specialist users can vary
parameters, numerical assumptions, vegetation, climate and atmospheric variables, and in a
straightforward fashion to visualize their outcomes. The models include online
documentation describing model assumptions and structures as well has how to operate the
software - and what's best of all its FREE and may be redistributed under
the terms of the GNU General Public License, published by the Free Software Foundation.
WOFTS
A consortium of researchers has been established to quantify the mechanisms of tree
response to elevated CO2 and O3. Including in our remit the
molecular and biochemical processes controlling foliar response to altered climatic
conditions. WOFTS is the name of the model that we are developing as part
of this work.
