CATEGORIES OF ECOLOGICAL MODELS |
- Landscape Models
- Landscape models are useful for evaluating the impact of changes to features (e.g., fragmentation, edge-area ratios> of large areas on habitat and populations of species or communities of concern.
- Metapopulation Models
- Species that occur in disconnected patches having independent dynamics within each patch but connected by dispersal, may behave as a metapopulation.
- Population Models
- Population demographic models provide a means of determining the viability of populations at a single installation and of evaluating impacts of changes in habitat on those populations.
- Habitat Models
- GIS-based habitat models utilize existing spatial data layers (e.g., land cover, soils, geology, topography) to predict the location and extent of habitat for species and communities of concern.
