Madurai, Nov 15. (PTI): Eleven elephants belonging to various temples in and around the district left here in a convoy of trucks last night for the proposed health camp at Mudumalai in Niligiris District.

Elephants from Dindigul and Palani would join the convoy early today, officials said.

Barricades had been provided in the vehicles to the height to the elephants and sand spread on the floor to avoid any possible injury to them during the long journey.

A team of officials, including veterinary doctors, temple staff and mahouts, led by HR and CE Joint Commissioner Ramaraju, is accompanying the convoy.
