Reptiles are the major predators of amphibians. Here is an illustration of a forest calotes (Calotes rouxi) feeding on the Philuatus luteolus . In an areca garden near Sapurthi of Aghanashini River basin, on 5 th March 2006, a calotes was seen running with a shrub frog (Philauts luteolus) in its mouth. After a few minutes of standstill, calotes engulfed the entire frog and climbed nearly 6 meters above ground, which I could not follow later. Philautus luteolus is an endemic, arboreal frog in the Western Ghats, found generally in the shrubs along the roadsides. They make characteristic loud calls during monsoon that sounds like tink-tink-tink-tink. Calotes rouxi is an endemic and arboreal lizard, found widely disturbed in the Western Ghats.
