Volvo has announced the Volvo Adventure Young Environmentalists
Award contest 2003 - a global contest involving students from across the world
- encouraging them to research and present projects on pertinent environmental
issues.
The contest calls for a team of five students aged between 10 and 16 - accompanied
by an adult supervisor - to identify, plan and execute an environmental project
that will make a difference in local environment. The project would have to
be posted on the contest website - www.volvoadventure.org - by December 31,
2003.The site also offers several activity kits and project aids which may be
utilized by registered teams to enhance their projects. An Internet-based global
environment competition for young people, Volvo Adventure runs on national and
international schemes. A panel comprising eminent environmentalists would judge
the projects at the national level and one project, representing India, would
be selected to participate in the Global Finals in Sweden in May 2004.
The winning team would get to rub shoulders with students from around the world,
congregating to make their presentation on their accomplishment. Teams would
have to make a physical presentation of their assignments to the international
judging panel. Apart from prizes ranging from US$4,000 to US$10,000, the winning
team would win acclaim and recognition from environmentalists and the industry
worldwide. Last year over 30 teams participated in the contest. At the Global
Finals held in September 2002, the team representing India-Team Little Eco-Friends
rom St. Josephs Indian High School, Bangalore went on to win the Award and a
