Abstract: This paper reviews the status of wildlife and habitats of Karnataka state in India. The overview briefly covers (1) Available habitat types in the major biogeographic zone of the state; (2) Current distribution of important mammalian species; (3) Protection status of wildlife and habitats in the recent years; and (4) The existing and proposed nature reserve areas in Karnataka
