Bangalore stands at a corner of a 3,000 feet plateau. To the north and north west, to the east and north-east almost Kolar town and to the south east beyond Hosur the level varies a little 100 feet or so above or below, except in the drainage basin of a river such as the Palar, till the eastern Ghats are reached when the landfalls away rapidly by rough jungle valleys.
