The Government of India under the Ministry of Environment and Forest set up an Environmental Information System (ENVIS) as a planned programme in December 1982. The focus of ENVIS since inception has been on providing environmental information to decision makers, policy planners, scientists and engineers, research workers, etc., all over the country.

ENVIS has, therefore, developed a network of institutions / organization engaged in work related to different subject areas of the environment.

The Ministry of Environment and Forests has identified Consumer Education and Research Centre (CERC), Ahmedabd, as one of the nodes to collect and disseminate information on "Eco-labelling and Promotion of Eco-friendly Prouducts". The website provides all possible information on eco-labelling and eco-friendly products. This site is extensively cross-linked with other major organization.
