Get Involved With GIS Day
>From open houses and software demonstrations to school presentations and
hands-on workshops, you can reach the goal of educating adults and
children all over the world about the benefits of GIS. One of the easiest
ways to become involved is to give a short presentation on GIS Day to a
local school. Grade specific lesson plans are available on the GIS Day
Web site.

Kudos to New England
The GIS Day Committee would like to extend a warm thank you and
congratulations to the six New England states and New York who will
participate in GIS Day 2004 on November 17.

This is the sixth year Massachusetts will be celebrating and the fourth
GIS Day for Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. New York and
Maine will celebrate their third GIS Day and Vermont, its second.
Although all the states proclaimed GIS Day in past years, this is the
first year all seven states will be participating by making GIS Day
proclamations, unifying the regionâ^À^Ùs support of this important
technology. Participating cities include Boston and Worcester,
Massachusetts; Burlington and Montpelier, Vermont; Hartford, Connecticut;
Albany, New York; and Manchester, New Hampshire.

Visit http://www.gisday.com/proclamations.html to view copies of their
GIS Day proclamations.

Declaring GIS Day All Over the Planet!
Has your city, state, town or village issued a GIS Day 2004 proclamation?
If your answer is no, it's time you asked your governor, mayor, or other
community leader to join the celebration! Visit
http://www.gisday.com/material.html
#declaration to find out just how easy it is.

Contact Your Local Media
Use the GIS Day press release template to submit an announcement to your
local newspaper or company newsletter about your GIS Day event. This is a
perfect way to publicize your event and increase attendance.

GIS Day and World Town Planning Day
While participating in GIS Day, why not celebrate World Town Planning Day
too? Sponsored in the United States by the American Planning Association
and its professional institute, the American Institute of Certified
Planners, World Town Planning Day will be celebrated in 30 countries on
four continents on November 8, 2004. It is a special day to recognize the
role of planning in creating livable communities. This November, plan a
joint GIS Day/World Town Planning Day event. GIS technology, combined
with responsible planning, can help contribute to a sustainable future.
See http://www.planning.org/worldtown/ for more details.
