Brazil: violence racks Indian reserve invaded by diamond miners
In recent weeks there have been violent confrontations between the Cinta Larga tribe and diamond miners who have illegally invaded their reserve in the western Amazon. Miners responsible for killing several Cinta Larga last year returned to the Indian reserve; as the Indians tried to defend their land, conflict broke out and at least 29  miners were killed.

Brazil: vital Yanomami health programme at risk
The Brazilian government's health foundation has announced that it will take over Indian health programmes which it had previously contracted out to NGOs. This has caused serious alarm amongst those working with the Yanomami who fear that the government will not provide the specialist health care needed.

UK: Government rejects collective rights for tribal peoples
Reversing a century of progress in the recognition of human rights, the UK government has now decided that collective human rights do not exist. If allowed to become official policy, this threatens to harm tribal peoples around the world.

Survival: 'Bushmen' thank Survival supporters for their messages
Last month Survival staff took the personal messages of hundreds of Survival supporters to the Gana and Gwi Bushmen in Botswana. Immensely touched, they in turn have sent back their own messages of thanks and appreciation for 'help from our friends so far away'.
