Founded in 1969, registered charity (UK) no. 267444 Colombia: Indians killed and beheaded by paramilitaries Two Arhuaco Indians from northern Colombia have been found beheaded after being seized by right-wing paramilitaries. The tragedy came just 11 days after another killing, this time of an employee of the local Indian organisation. http://www.survival-international.org/news.htm Australia: Aboriginal author films advert for Survival The Aboriginal author of Follow the Rabbit Proof Fence, Doris Pilkington Garimara, has filmed an advert for Survival. In the ad, Ms Pilkington describes how Survival helped her father's people, the Martudjara, return to their traditional land in the 1980s. Ms Pilkington also denounces the continuing forced integration of tribal peoples in the name of 'progress'. http://www.survival-international.org/news.htm India: Minister draws up 'assimilation' plan India's Tribal Welfare Minister has announced in an interview on the isolated Jarawa tribe of the Andaman Islands that he has been working on a plan to 'reform the tribals and assimilate them with the mainstream', despite a High Court order banning any such attempt. The Minister said, 'It is not right to leave them as is.' http://www.survival-international.org/news.htm Italy: indigenous people speak out at Survival conference Indigenous people from around the world have used a Survival press conference in Milan to denounce threats to their lands and ways of life.
