Subject: Job vacancy at Wetlands International Wetlands International - Asia Pacific=20 Vacancy - Job Description Executive Director Wetlands International -Asia Pacific is seeking to fill a senior vacancy = for an Executive Director who, under authority of the Council, will be = responsible for development and co-ordination of Wetlands = International's program in the region and heading the daily activity of = the regional headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. WETLANDS INTERNATIONAL was launched on 1 January 1996, following the = integration of three existing non-profit international wetland = conservation organisations; International Waterfowl and Wetlands = Research Bureau (IWRB), Asian Wetland Bureau (AWB), Wetlands for the = Americas (WA). The achievements of the founding organisations date back = more than 40 years and include the launch of the Ramsar Convention, = major regional surveys and conservation programmes for wetlands and = wetland species, support to national wetland strategies, demonstration = management projects, and the development of international programmes for = migratory water bird conservation. Today, Wetlands International is a = leading international wetland conservation organisation with programmes, = networks and projects in more than 120 countries worldwide. =20 WETLANDS INTERNATIONAL comprises four operating units; a small = International Co-ordination Unit in Wageningen (Netherlands) and three = Regional Headquarters of which the one for the Asia Pacific region is = based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The program of Wetlands International - = Asia Pacific is co-ordinated from the regional headquarters in Kuala = Lumpur. Program implementation occurs through this office, and a further = eight national and sub-regional offices. The organisation is a catalyst = for wetland-conservation-projects throughout the Asia Pacific region. TERMS OF REFERENCE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR The Director has overall executive responsibility for the work of the = organisation, chairs the Management Team and reports to the WI-AP = Council. Specific duties include: 1. Lead the strategic development of the organisation, within the = framework of the licence provided by WETLANDS INTERNATIONAL.=20 2. Take overall responsibility for the management of all staff and = direct responsibility for management of sub-regional program/office = heads. 3. Take overall responsibility for the financial well-being of the = organisation. 4. Lead and coordinate fundraising efforts. 5. Prepare triennial and annual plans of activity and report on their = implementation. 6. Represent the organisation at global and regional fora. 7. Coordinate with the Directors of the other Regional Licensees, and = the ICU International Director, to achieve the strategic development of = Wetlands International. 8. Ensure high standards in all work undertaken. 9. Promote and support the membership of Wetlands International, in = close liaison with the ICU. 10. Develop and foster collaboration with like-minded organisations, and = monitor implementation of existing MoUs (particularly that related to = headquarters location). WETLANDS INTERNATIONAL is in a phase of rapid development; the Council = will therefore review responsibilities activities and performance of the = Executive Director on a regular basis. The ideal candidate will be from the Asia Pacific region, will have at = least 10 years of international experience developing organisations, = networks and partnerships, preferably in the environmental or = sustainable development field. A flair for fund-raising and marketing is = desirable. Diplomatic skills and an understanding of international = relations, of technical and scientific issues relating to wetland = conservation and management will all be needed. Although English is the = working language of WETLANDS INTERNATIONAL, proficiency in other widely = used languages in the region would be an asset. In order to encourage = appropriate diversity of staff at the regional HQ, applications from = countries outside Malaysia are strongly welcomed. The position is open = to male and female candidates.
